We depart St Pancras International on Eurostar to Brussels. We continue to Amsterdam by train and check into the lovely Hotel Estheréa. This evening we dine in a local restaurant. (D)

Today we enjoy a guided tour of the city centre on foot and by canal boat - the two best ways to explore this beautiful city with its hidden gems and romantic waterways. For our first two departures we join a coach after our tour of Amsterdam and head to magnificent Keukenhof, where 80 acres of park featuring large beds of tulips and spectacular flower displays await. Millions of tulip bulbs are planted each year along with crocuses, daffodils and other flowers. You have time to explore via strategically laid paths weaving through the colourful gardens. June and September departures, your afternoon is free to explore the city further and follow your own interests. (B)

On this full day excursion, we travel by coach to Medemblik, where we catch the historic steam train that takes us from village to village through the Westfrisian coastal countryside. We arrive in Hoorn for lunch before departing for Volendam. This village was once an important base for the Dutch East-India Company and some locals still wear traditional costume. After some free time, we set off to Zaanse Schans on the way back to Amsterdam. This fascinating openair museum exhibits traditional working life in the Netherlands. (B)

Today you are free to explore independently. Amsterdam is home to some superb museums, such as the Rijksmuseum, Rembrandt House, the Anne Frank Museum and Van Gogh Museum. Alternatively, stroll through the city's squares or alongside the pretty canals. We enjoy a final dinner together, tonight at a Dutch-Indonesian restaurant. (B,D)
