  Leave Ronda to join the ferry at Tarifa for the second part your rail adventure crossing the Straits of Gibraltar into Tangier, North Africa. Join your Rabat-bound train and journey past the wild coastline and rich farmland before arriving at Morocco’s capital city where you will stay for two nights.

  Explore the ‘City of Kings’ on a morning tour. See the Royal Palace of Hassan II and the 12th century Kasbah des Oudaia, visit the Mohammed V Mausoleum and the unfinished Hassan Tower, and explore the old medina.   Travel by road to the thriving trade centre of Casablanca; explore an eclectic mix of old and new on a city tour. Visit the magnificent Hassan II Great Mosque and take a drive along the splendid Corniche. After lunch board the train bound for Marrakech where you will be staying for three nights.

  Enjoying a spectacular setting between the desert and the towering peaks of the Atlas Mountains, remote imperial Marrakech is unique. Connect with past and present on an included tour; see the Bahia Palace and encounter bustling Djemma El Fna. Walk through the vibrant Jewish Quarter to the El Badi Palace and arouse your senses at the spice markets. In the afternoon make your own discoveries, explore the myriad of souks in the medina and at dusk return to Djemma El Fna. Soak up the extraordinary atmosphere of steaming food stalls, acrobats and jugglers, escape artists and storytellers, of embroidered leather slippers, brightly coloured wool hanging in the alleyways, dyed leather skins drying in the sun, welders and metal workers.

  Today you will travel through the Atlas Mountains, across desert and scarcely inhabited territory to the city of Fez where you will stay for three nights.

  Immerse yourself in the intricate maze of flat roofs and tall minarets, stairways and alleys of Morocco’s oldest city. Watch merchants trade at the souks and unravel history at the ancient Karaouline University, discover the Nejarine Fountain and the Royal Palace on an included tour. • Volubilis, Moulay Idriss and Meknes - 13
  

  Step back 2,000 years at the spectacular ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. From archaeological encounters journey to the hilltop setting of Moulay Idriss, a sacred town of whitewashed walls and green roofs, enjoying some time here. Relive the dynasty of once-powerful King Moulay Ismail in the imperial city of Meknes, where his legacy lives on in the elaborate palaces, mosques and gardens. Tour the city and see the monumental Khmiss Gate, the historic city walls and Jewish Quarter.

• Fez to Seville - 14
  

  Leave Fez by train travelling to Tangier for your return ferry to Tarifa and journey by road to Seville where you stay for the final two nights.

  Discover this city of Carmen, Don Juan and Figaro on a morning tour. Stroll through the Barrio Santa Cruz, with its white houses and flower-bedecked balconies, stand in the shade of the enormous Gothic cathedral and discover the magnificent Plaza de Espana with its monumental staircases, fountains and beautiful alcoves. Maybe savour the tastes of Seville this afternoon at one of the many tapas bars.

You will travel from Paris to Madrid on board the Francisco de Goya overnight service in ‘Preferente Class’. Sleepers consist of a cosy two-berth compartment with two armchairs by day and upper and lower berths at night. Each compartment comes with a washbasin, towels, soap and mineral water. Breakfast is included and other meals, snacks and drinks can be purchased throughout the journey.
