Day 1 - By train to Germany
We depart St Pancras International by Eurostar, with a complimentary meal and drinks served on board before our arrival in Brussels. We change for the Thalys service to Cologne, where we spend the night at either the Four Points Hotel Central or Euro Garden Hotel. (E,D)
Day 2 - Through Germany to the Tyrol
We leave Cologne by IC service, travelling along the scenic Rhine Valley, renowned for hilltop castles and steep vineyards. Heading south through Germany, we reach the Austrian Tyrol and our base for the next seven nights, the Schlosshotel Rosenegg in Fieberbrunn. After dinner this evening we enjoy a torchlit walk through the village. (B,D)
Day 3 - Fieberbrunn
We begin our stay in this scenic Tyrolean village with a guided orientation walk, after which the rest of the day is free to enjoy the hotel's facilities or further explore the locality, which is a great base for walks in the surrounding meadows and mountains, and which has its own cable cars (seasonal opening). Day 4 - Excursion to Kitzbühel
Today we visit nearby Kitzbühel by train. One of Austria's most prestigious winter resorts, Kitzbühel is a colourful town in Summer, basking in a wonderful location within the Kitzbüheler Alps between the Hahnenkamm and the Kitzbüheler Horn. Explore the quaint streets and shops or maybe take a ride on one of the local cable cars (seasonal) up into the mountains. Back in Fieberbrunn, this evening after dinner we enjoy some Tyrolean evening entertainment with traditional dancers in local costume. (B,D)
Day 5 - Krimml Falls
A coach excursion takes us through the countryside to the spectacular Krimml falls, which at 1,250 feet (381 metres) are the highest in Europe. We also visit Krimml's Water Wonder World exhibition, which traces the long route of water from the peaks of the Tauern range down to the Krimml Falls. This evening's festivities at the hotel include the 'Schlossherrenbuffet', a hot and cold gala buffet, opened with a musical fanfare. (B,D)
Day 6 - A day at leisure in Fieberbrunn
Relax in your hotel's peaceful surroundings or maybe take the train to one of the neighbouring villages, such as St Johann in Tirol or Kirchberg. Alternatively, the Zillertalbahn Railway is reachable by train in one hour and the capital city of the Tyrol, Innsbruck in just over an hour, with its Imperial buildings and quaint Old Town, set beneath a unique backdrop of the Alps. Day 7 - The Achenseebahn Railway
A delightful excursion by rail awaits today as we make the journey through the Inn Valley to the Achenseebahn railway, a four-mile narrow-gauge railway leading from Jenbach in the valley to Achensee, which is the Tyrol's largest lake. On their struggle into the mountains, the locomotives negotiate high gradients. With some free time to relax in the lakeside location, enjoy lunch or maybe take a boat trip, before we make the return journey to Fieberbrunn. (B,D)
Day 8 - Excursion to Zell am See
Today's excursion by rail heads eastwards out of the Tyrol and into the neighbouring Salzburg region. Our destination is the classic resort of Zell am See, hugging Lake Zell beneath the Schmittenhöhe mountain. During our visit we enjoy a boat trip on Lake Zell itself, with free time to maybe enjoy a stroll along the lakeside. (B,D)
Day 9 - By train to Cologne
We leave Fieberbrunn and head for Munich, from where we travel by ICE train to Cologne, to spend our final night at either the Four Points Hotel Central or Euro Garden Hotel. Our late afternoon arrival gives you a little time before dinner to explore the city with its historic streets, elegant squares and medieval churches, and perhaps take a gentle stroll along the Rhine. Day 10 - To Brussels and London
Our morning departure to Brussels connects with Eurostar to London. A complimentary meal and drinks are served on board before our arrival into St Pancras International. (B,E)
