Step aboard and you step back into a more gracious, elegant age of travel. A steward will show you to your private compartment and will be your attendant for the day. As you travel past the grandeur of the Italian Dolomites sip an aperitif in the Bar Car and listen to the gentle sounds of the baby grand piano, you will experience the glamour and excitement of 1920s rail travel. Then it’s time to take your seat in the stunning dining car for a sumptuous three course lunch. Dream away the afternoon in the comfort of your compartment or join fellow travellers in the Bar Car, before alighting early evening at Rome station for your three night stay in the Italian capital city.

Rome celebrates the present as much as the past and you have two full days to discover all the superb sights. A good place to start your exploration is the Piazza Navona, home to Bernini’s colossal Fountain of the Four Rivers. If shopping is your pleasure, head for the designer stores of the Via Condotti, nearby you’ll find the famous Spanish Steps, which sweep majestically from the Piazza di Spangna to the church of Trinita dei Monte. The glorious St. Peter’s Basilica and the Roman Forum are simply unmissable. Stand in awe at the huge Colosseum, and remember to throw a coin into the waters of the magnificent Trevi Fountain. Stop for an espresso at a pavement café and watch the locals as they pursue their frenetic pace of life in this fantastic city.
