Day 1 - London to Montreux
We depart St Pancras International on the Eurostar service to Paris, travelling in Leisure Select Class with a meal and drinks served at our seat. After crossing the city by coach we join the high-speed TGV service to Switzerland. We change trains in Lausanne or Geneva and travel along the shores of Lake Geneva to Montreux, passing lakeside vineyards and towns framed by the majestic snow-covered mountains of the Alps. Our hotel for five nights is the Royal Plaza Hotel which enjoys a lakeside location in Montreux, one of Lake Geneva's most popular resorts. (E,D)
Day 2 - Château de Chillon on New Year's Eve
This morning we include an excursion by trolley bus to one of Switzerland's most beautiful sites, the Château de Chillon. Built on a rock, the castle rises dramatically out of the waters of Lake Geneva and sits against a backdrop of breathtaking mountain scenery. We enjoy a fascinating guided tour of the 13th century château, considered to be one of Europe's best preserved medieval castles and a fine example of early Gothic architecture. We return to the hotel for a celebratory dinner accompanied by a welcome drink and wine followed by music and dancing. At mignight we toast the New Year in with a glass of champagne. (B,D)
Day 3 - Rochers de Naye on New Year's Day
On New Year's Day we take a fabulous journey into the mountains by cog railway to Rochers de Naye, one of Switzerland's most beautiful viewpoints. (B,D)
Day 4 - The GoldenPass Line
Today's excursion begins with a short coach ride to Gruyères, a small, pretty hillside town renowned for its cheese. You have the opportunity to visit the cheese factory (payable locally), before we further explore the town, dominated by an impressive château. Our journey continues to the chic resort of Gstaad where we board the famous GoldenPass Line panoramic train for the scenic rail journey to Montreux. We travel in comfortable observation cars, allowing you to relax and admire the beautiful snow covered peaks and valleys, and watch the dramatic views over Lake Geneva unfold as we begin our descent into Montreux. Day 5 - A day at leisure
You are free to spend today at leisure in Montreux, exploring this picturesque lakeside town or perhaps travel along the lake for a visit to Lausanne or Geneva. (B,D)
Day 6 - The journey home
We travel to Geneva or Lausanne, where we connect with the TGV for a journey in First Class through France to Dijon and on to Paris. After crossing Paris by coach, we connect with the Eurostar service to London. We enjoy a complimentary meal and drinks on board before our arrival into St Pancras International. (B,E)
