We depart St Pancras International by Eurostar to Brussels, where we change trains and continue by Thalys to Cologne. Upon arrival, we check into the Four Points Hotel Central and enjoy a 'get to know you' welcome drink of sparkling wine and a meal at the hotel. (D)

Today we visit the historic spa-city of Aachen. You have the opportunity to browse Aachen's Christmas Market during the day. The market lies underneath the Aachen Cathedral, the first German monument to be given UNESCO World Heritage Status. This location was once the coronation site of German kings and now serves as the resting place of the Emperor Charlemagne. Other notable sites include the Elisenbrunnen, a neoclassical hall, just minutes away from the market and the Ponttor and Kleinmarschiertor city gates. You are sure to find a stand selling Aachner Printen, sweet bread baked in large flat loaves. This local specialty is a real treat. After you have had plenty of time to explore the stalls at Aachen's Christmas Market, we enjoy dinner on board a cruise ship, floating on the Rhine. (B,D)

Today you are free to leisurely stroll among Cologne's Christmas Market stalls. With more than 100 wooden stalls, Cologne simply radiates Christmas cheer this time of year. The stalls feature crafts, sweets, festive gifts and other authentically German treats. After spending some time at Cologne's primary Christmas Market in the bustling market square, be sure to stop by the other five Christmas Markets as well, especially the Medieval Markets which has a unique range of gifts. You may also choose to visit Cologne's famous Chocolate Museum or its grand cathedral. Tonight we have dinner at a traditional brewery tavern in Cologne. (B,D)

We leave Cologne by train for Brussels. Here we join the Eurostar service, arriving back into St Pancras International. (B)
